Check if Remote Viewing failed because of DDNS Services Expired
Last Updated 4 months ago

If you are unable to view your CCTV system remotely and want to check if it's due solely because of the Expired DDNS Subscription, here's the step to do so.

1. Check Current Public IP
Visit http://checkip.dyn.com from the same internet connection as your CCTV system. Take note of the IP displayed.

2. Change the IP/Domain on your mobile app to the current IP instead of the hostname
a. Open HIK-CONNECT for End User app on your mobile devices.
b. Select the system, and click on the Settings Button.

c. Take note of the current Address. You need to change it back to this later after testing with the current IP. e.g. in this case, domainname.domain.com

d. Change the Address to the Public IP you gotten in step 1. e.g. 111.111.111.111 in this example. DO NOT USE 111.111.111.111. Use the IP Displayed when you visit the checkip website.

e. Click save.

You can test if you are able to connect to the CCTV System using the direct current IP.
If you can't, try switching off the Wifi and test using the 4/5G Connection as some router doesn't support NAT Loopback function, meaning you can't access when you are connected to the same internet connection.

If you are able to connect using direct current IP, then most likely the DDNS subscription had expired and that's why you cannot connect using the hostname.

For a further check, run Command Prompt from your windows.

Type in "Ping ". e.g. "Ping domainname.domain.com" in this example.

If it shows "Ping request could not find host domainname.domain.com. Please check the name and try again.", the Hostname is no longer valid. DDNS subscription had expired

If it shows the domain name is resolved to the correct current IP, then the DDNS hostname is working properly. The issues is NOT with the DDNS Hostname Subscription.

If it shows the domain name is NOT resolve to the current IP, it may means the DDNS hostname is not updated properly, or could means the DDNS Hostname had been deactivated due to subscription expired.
